From Patriot To Prisoner

If you do not know what is going on with Aaron Hernandez these days then you must either be living under a rock or the NSA has blocked all of your media access (not putting it past them). The basic dilemma that the Patriots tight end finds himself in is that he is involved in an on-going homicide investigation. A man was found dead, executed with a gun shot wound to the back of his head, less than a mile from Hernandez’s house in local North Attleboro. The deceased was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiance and the football player’s rental car was found nearby. When police came to talk to Hernandez and search his place, they found that he had smashed his surveillance equipment, shattered his cell phone, and hired a cleaning crew to scrub his home down. Lots of other rumors have been circulating surrounding what exactly Aaron’s role in this was and why, but one thing has been made abundantly clear: He was involved, in some fashion, with a cold-blooded murder. Hernandez has always been in and out of trouble in his life and instead of hanging out with his teammates he chose to associate himself with drug dealers and other low-life figures. Now incidents are being reported from all over the country from the last five years, ranging from a argument at a strip club in providence to a gun fight with a cocaine peddler in Florida. The NFL has had plenty of serious criminal issues in the past such as O.J. Simpson, Ray Lewis, and Michael Vick. However, the media today is far superior to what it was back in O.J.’s day and as horrible as the crimes Vick committed were, this is another level with a man’s family having to mourn a murdered son. The closest comparison is the Ray Lewis case. Lewis had a posse like Hernandez, full of the criminal element, and he destroyed evidence as well (the bloody white suit). Lewis ended up winning in court, with the prosecution unable to get anything substantial to stick to him. I, a Patriots fan, hope that the result is very different this time.

Sports are great, hell they are my life, but in the end it is just a game. A game played by millionaires that entertains us despite the troubles we all face, a game that instills local pride in a community, a game that at times can mean so much to so many. However, anybody who wants a guy like Aaron Hernandez on their team has taken this game far too seriously. The man is involved with a homicide and at the LEAST he is guilty of destroying evidence. A man is dead today that should be alive. Hernandez, for his role, should never get to play football again for any team, he should never get the money, the fame, the rewards, the praise. He should get a cell in prison and all the lovely experiences that go along with that. I don’t care that he is a talented athlete that would help my team out tremendously on the field. We have seen athletes, actors, musicians get away with plenty just because they are famous. It ends here. We as a society need to stand up and say that enough is enough! Hernandez was involved in a murder and NEEDS to do hard time just like anybody else would for these heinous crimes. There is still a lot to decipher and discover in this case, but it is abundantly clear already that Aaron Hernandez is NOT innocent. He had the money and the glory and all the opportunities in the world due to his talents. He chose to associate with scumbags and truthfully he has become one himself by not making better decisions and by not surrounding himself with the right people. The cruel irony is that for most of the offseason people were worried about Rob Gronkowski for partying too hard and drinking too much. Truth be told it was the other tight end we should have been worrying about.

I want nothing more than for my beloved Patriots to win the Super Bowl this season. I just hope that while Gronk is celebating with the Lombardi Trophy in one hand and a cold beer in the other, Aaron Hernandez is locked up behind bars for his role in this tragedy.
